Level 2 Intermediate Photography Workshop in Scotland
Refine your composition. Make stronger decisions. Build consistency.
A calm, practical intermediate photography workshop for photographers who understand the basics but want to make stronger, more consistent images.
If you understand your camera but still feel unsure about composition, lens choice, light, focus or field decisions…
You’ll work at a relaxed pace, with one-to-one or small-group guidance shaped around your current ability, creative goals and the kind of images you want to improve.
Who This Workshop Is For
This workshop is for photographers who already understand the basics but want to move beyond simply getting the settings right.
You may be comfortable with aperture, shutter speed and ISO, but still feel unsure about composition, lens choice, timing, depth of field or why some images work better than others.
Level 2 is about building confidence in the field, making stronger decisions and becoming more consistent with the images you create.
-
You know the basics
You may already be using manual or semi-manual modes and understand the main camera settings.
The focus now is on using those settings more deliberately, rather than simply getting a correct exposure.
-
Composition still feels uncertain
We’ll look at how to organise a scene more clearly, simplify distractions and make stronger choices with shape, balance, depth, light and subject placement.
The aim is to help you understand why a composition works, not just hope that it does.
-
You want more consistent images
Level 2 is ideal if you sometimes make images you like, but struggle to repeat that success.
We’ll build a clearer field process so you can respond more confidently to changing light, conditions and subjects.
Choose Where You Want to Improve
Level 2 workshops can be shaped around the subjects you most want to improve. Choose woodland, coastal and seascape, landscape, or a mixture of subjects as part of a bespoke intermediate day.
-

Woodland Photography
Refine your woodland compositions, simplify busy scenes and work more confidently with separation, depth, rhythm, texture, light and atmosphere.
-

Coastal & Seascape Photography
Improve your coastal images by working more deliberately with tide timing, shutter speed, water movement, rock formations, light, filters and shoreline details.
-

Landscape Photography
Build stronger landscape images through better composition, lens choice, light, depth, foreground interest, reflections, water movement and more intentional field decisions.
What We’ll Cover
The day is shaped around your current ability and creative goals, but most Level 2 workshops focus on improving the decisions that make your images stronger and more consistent.
Field Technique & Camera Decisions
Refining exposure decisions in changing light
Using aperture and shutter speed more deliberately
Choosing the right lens for the scene
Improving focus and depth of field control
Working with tripods, filters or slower shutter speeds where useful
Adapting your approach to the conditions in front of you
Composition & Consistency
Simplifying complicated scenes
Finding stronger subjects and visual structure
Using balance, separation, layers and negative space
Reading light, texture, shape and atmosphere
Knowing when to move, wait, refine or walk away
Building a repeatable field process for stronger images
The aim is not to make photography more complicated. It is to help you make clearer decisions, understand what is working and come away with a more reliable way of building strong images.

A camera, charged batteries, memory cards and suitable outdoor clothing are the essentials.
