Scottish Landscape Photography Workshops
Calm, practical landscape photography workshops shaped around your level, pace and way of seeing.
Landscape photography does not always need to be about grand views and dramatic skies. These workshops can include wider Scottish landscapes, but my own approach is often drawn to quieter, more intimate scenes — light on water, woodland edges, reflections, texture, shape, colour, movement and small details within the landscape.
The aim is to help you slow down, notice more and make stronger images from the landscape in front of you, whether that is a broad view across a glen or a more subtle composition found at your feet.
Whether you are new to photography or looking to refine your landscape images, each workshop is shaped around your experience, preferred dates and the kind of landscapes you are drawn to.
Learn to Read the Landscape More Clearly
Landscape photography can feel wide open at first. There may be too much in front of you: sky, foreground, hills, water, trees, changing light and no obvious place to begin.
The aim of these workshops is to make landscape photography feel calmer and more deliberate. We work slowly, looking for structure, balance, light, depth, separation, texture, shape, rhythm and the small decisions that help turn a scene into a stronger photograph.
Your workshop can focus on intimate landscape photography, wider views, or a mixture of both. We can work with lochs, glens, woodland edges, waterfalls, reflections, rock, water movement, close-up natural details or broader landscape scenes depending on what you want to develop.
Why Landscape Photography?
Landscape photography is less about chasing famous viewpoints and more about learning how to respond to the place, light and conditions in front of you.
Instead of relying only on dramatic skies or iconic locations, we look for stronger visual structure: reflections, foreground interest, layers, shape, atmosphere, colour, texture, light direction, water movement and the relationship between different parts of the scene.
These workshops are ideal if you want to become more confident, observant and intentional when photographing both wider landscapes and quieter intimate details.
Choose Your Landscape Workshop Level
Your landscape workshop can be shaped around your current experience, confidence and creative goals. Choose the level that best fits where you are now, or send an enquiry if you’re unsure.
-

Level 1 | Beginner
For anyone who wants to understand their camera, move away from Auto and build confidence in landscape settings.
We will keep the day calm and practical, covering exposure, focus, lenses, shutter speed and simple composition while learning how to make better decisions in the field.
-

Level 2 | Intermediate
For photographers who know the basics but want stronger, more consistent landscape images.
We can work on composition, lens choice, depth of field, filters, timing, light, location choice and how to respond when the scene or conditions are changing.
-

Level 3 | Advanced
For photographers who want deeper refinement, stronger creative choices and more personal landscape images.
This level focuses on atmosphere, visual balance, restraint, field craft, mood, subtle compositions, intimate landscape details and developing a more intentional way of working in the landscape.
Bespoke & Mixed Landscape Days
Not every workshop needs to fit neatly into one level. Many landscape days are planned as bespoke sessions, shaped around your interests, confidence, preferred location and the kind of images you want to make.
Your day can focus on intimate landscape photography, wider Scottish views, or a mixture of both. We can work with woodland edges, lochs, glens, waterfalls, coast, close-up natural details, reflections, texture, movement or broader landscape scenes depending on the season, location and what you want to work on.
Landscape workshops are arranged by enquiry throughout the year, with the location and format shaped around your experience level, preferred dates, pace and the kind of landscape photography you want to develop.
Locations, Dates & Pricing
Depending on the day, we can work with glens, lochs, hills, woodland edges, waterfalls, reflections, foreground interest, changing light, rock, water movement, intimate landscape details and broader natural scenes.
Where Landscape Workshops Take Place
Most bespoke landscape workshops are planned around Angus, Tayside, Perthshire, Fife and Aberdeenshire, with locations chosen to suit your experience level, the season, available light and the kind of images you want to make.
The focus can be broad or intimate. We can work with glens, lochs, hills, woodland edges, waterfalls, reflections, foreground details, rock, water movement, texture, colour, light and quieter natural scenes within the landscape.
Further afield landscape days can also be arranged by enquiry, including Highland locations, multi-day trips and seasonal Signature workshops..

Signature & Intimate Landscape Workshops
Alongside standard bespoke landscape days, I also offer more immersive Signature-style workshops built around carefully chosen locations, seasons and subjects.
Glen Affric is a natural fit for this style of workshop, with loch edges, woodland margins, reflections, old trees, water movement, texture, mist, autumn colour and quieter details within the landscape.
These workshops are less about rushing between viewpoints and more about spending time with a place, working slowly and responding to the light, season and small details that make the landscape feel alive.
Signature landscape workshops are arranged by enquiry, or listed when dates are available.
From a Workshop Client
“Great day out with Duncan. Thoroughly recommend him if you are looking to improve your camera skills (or lack thereof in my case).”

Poor weather does not automatically mean poor photography. Landscape photography can work well in soft light, mist, rain, cloud, wind and changing conditions.
If the weather becomes unsafe or completely unsuitable, we can discuss adjusting the location, plan or date.

A camera, charged batteries, memory cards and suitable outdoor clothing are the essentials.
A tripod is useful for many landscape scenes, especially waterfalls, low light, long exposures and careful composition. Filters can also be helpful, but I can advise you before the day based on your equipment and workshop plan.
