Why Woodland Photography?
Woodland photography is about noticing smaller, quieter scenes.
Instead of relying on big views, we look for shape, rhythm, colour, soft light, moss, lichen, reflections and the natural structure of the forest.
It is ideal if you want to become more patient, observant and intentional with your photography.
Learn to See the Woodland More Clearly
Woodlands can feel busy at first. Branches overlap, light changes quickly and backgrounds can become cluttered.
During the workshop, I’ll help you slow down, simplify the frame and make clearer decisions with composition, light, texture, structure and atmosphere.
You can work on woodland-only photography, or include wider landscapes and natural details as part of a bespoke day.
Prefer a More Flexible Woodland Day?
That is completely fine. You do not need to arrive with a fixed plan or a chosen level.
Your woodland workshop can focus entirely on woodland photography, or include wider landscapes, close up natural details, water, wildlife hides or other nearby subjects depending on the season, light, location and what you want to work on.

Woodland Locations
Most bespoke woodland workshops are planned across Angus, Tayside, Perthshire, Fife and Aberdeenshire, with locations chosen to suit the season, available light and your experience level.
Depending on the time of year, we can work with birch woodland, moss, lichen, autumn colour, spring growth, lochside woodland, forest edges and quieter intimate landscape details.
Highland and other Scottish woodland locations can also be arranged by enquiry.

Woodland workshops are available year-round and arranged around your preferred dates wherever possible.
I’ll choose the location and route around the season, likely conditions, your experience and the type of woodland images you want to make.
Travel during the workshop day is included from our agreed meeting point.
Seasonal Signature woodland workshops have their own selected dates and locations.
Signature and Seasonal Woodland Workshops
Some woodland workshops are built around specific seasons, locations and subjects, from autumn woodland in the Highlands to spring bluebells, mist, moss, lichen and old forest details.
These Signature workshops are more location-led and seasonal than a standard bespoke woodland day, with dates planned around the best time of year for a particular place or subject.

No. Standard woodland workshops are arranged by enquiry throughout the year. We agree a suitable date, location and format based on your availability, level and the kind of woodland photography you want to work on.

Yes. A woodland workshop can be fully woodland-focused, or it can be combined with wider landscapes, close-up natural details, wildlife hides, coastal work or other natural subjects as part of a bespoke day.

We don’t panic and we don’t waste the day. If it’s unsafe, we’ll reschedule. If it’s just Scottish weather, we’ll adapt, choose sheltered locations, and work with what we’ve got. Some of the best learning happens in imperfect conditions.

A camera, charged batteries, memory cards and suitable outdoor clothing are the essentials. A tripod is useful for many woodland scenes, but I can advise you before the day based on your equipment and workshop plan.

Yes. Travel during the day is included from our agreed meeting location. If we’re moving between spots, that’s built into the day.
