Scottish Woodland Photography Workshops
Calm, practical woodland photography workshops shaped around your level, pace and way of seeing.
Woodland photography is one of the most rewarding and challenging forms of landscape photography. These workshops are designed to help you slow down, simplify complex scenes and make stronger images from light, texture, structure and atmosphere.
Whether you are new to photography or looking to refine your woodland compositions, each workshop is shaped around your experience, interests and the conditions on the day.
Learn to See the Woodland More Clearly
Woodlands can feel overwhelming at first. Branches overlap, light changes quickly, backgrounds become cluttered and it can be difficult to know where to place your attention.
The aim of these workshops is to make woodland photography feel calmer and more deliberate. We work slowly, looking for shape, character, rhythm, separation, light, colour, texture and small details that help bring order to the scene.
Your workshop can be focused entirely on woodland photography, or it can be combined with wider landscapes, close-up natural details or other subjects as part of a bespoke day.
Why Woodland Photography?
Woodland photography is less about chasing obvious viewpoints and more about learning how to respond to the landscape in front of you.
Instead of relying on dramatic mountains or big skies, we look for quieter elements: the curve of a branch, soft light through the trees, autumn colour, bluebells, moss, lichen, reflections, mist, rain, texture and the natural rhythm of the forest.
These workshops are ideal if you want to become more patient, observant and intentional with your photography.

-

Level 1 | Beginner
For anyone who wants to understand their camera, move away from Auto and build confidence in woodland settings.
We will keep the day calm and practical, covering exposure, focus, lenses and simple composition while learning how to make sense of busy woodland scenes.
-

Level 2 | Intermediate
For photographers who know the basics but want stronger, more consistent woodland images.
We can work on composition, lens choice, depth of field, separation, light, timing and how to make better decisions when woodland scenes feel complicated.
-

Level 3 | Advanced
For photographers who want deeper refinement, stronger creative choices and more personal woodland images.
This level focuses on atmosphere, visual rhythm, restraint, field craft, mood, subtle compositions and developing a more intentional way of working in woodland.
Bespoke & Mixed Woodland Days
Not every workshop needs to fit neatly into one level. Many woodland days are planned as bespoke sessions, shaped around your interests, confidence, location and the conditions.
Your day can focus entirely on woodland photography, or combine woodland with wider landscapes, close-up natural details, wildlife hides or other subjects depending on the season, light and what you want to work on.

What you’ll photograph
Your day is tailored around what you want to photograph, not a fixed route.
When you enquire, tell me what you’re drawn to and we’ll build the plan around it. Choose from:
Coastal and seascapes: rock textures, leading lines, long exposures, changing tide.
Woodland: simplifying busy scenes, layers, intimate detail, natural abstracts.
Natural landscape: glens, viewpoints, light, atmosphere, and timing.
If there’s a place you already love, or somewhere you’ve always wanted to shoot, we can tailor the workshop around that location too. Just tell me when you enquire and I’ll advise what will work best for the time of year and conditions.
Bespoke days further afield can be arranged by enquiry.
