Why Coastal and Seascape Photography?
Coastal photography is one of the most rewarding and changeable forms of landscape photography. Tides, waves, weather and light are always shifting, which makes the coast a brilliant place to learn timing, patience and stronger visual decision-making.
These workshops are ideal if you want to become more confident working with movement, structure, atmosphere and smaller coastal details.

Intimate and Abstract Coastal Photography
Coastal photography does not always need to be about wide views, dramatic skies or long exposures. Some of the strongest images can be found in smaller details: rock patterns, tide marks, seaweed, foam, water movement, colour, texture and shape.
These quieter coastal scenes are ideal if you enjoy more abstract, intimate or detail led photography. We can spend time working slowly with small sections of the shore, looking for rhythm, balance, contrast, movement and simple compositions that might otherwise be missed.
Your coastal workshop can be shaped around wider seascapes, intimate details, or a mixture of both.
Prefer a More Flexible Coastal Day?
That is completely fine. You do not need to arrive with a fixed plan or a chosen level.
Your coastal workshop can focus on coastal and seascape photography, or include castles, cliffs, beaches, lighthouses, rock patterns, tide marks, intimate details, long exposures or other nearby subjects depending on the season, tide, weather, light and what you want to work on.

Where Coastal Workshops Take Place
Most bespoke coastal workshops are planned around Angus, Fife and Aberdeenshire, with locations chosen to suit your experience level, tide times, available light and the kind of coastal images you want to make.
Depending on the day, we can work with cliffs, beaches, sea stacks, rock textures, tide movement, long exposures, wave patterns, coastal abstracts, leading lines and changing light.
Further afield coastal days can also be arranged by enquiry, including longer trips and seasonal Signature workshops.

Multi day bookings are available by enquiry, with 10% off for two days and 15% off for three days.

Curated Coastal and Seascape Workshop Routes
Alongside standard bespoke coastal days, I also offer more curated coastal workshop routes around selected stretches of coastline.
These are not fixed date workshops. They are arranged by enquiry and planned around tide times, light, weather, pace and the kind of seascape images you want to make.
The current curated East Coast route includes locations such as Dunnottar Castle, Arbroath Cliffs, Lunan Bay, Auchmithie, Scurdie Ness Lighthouse, sea stacks and open beaches.
A Moray Coast seascape day can also be shaped around places such as Bow Fiddle Rock, Hopeman and other characterful locations along the Moray coastline.

No. Standard coastal workshops are arranged by enquiry throughout the year. We agree a suitable date, location and format based on your availability, level, tide times and the kind of coastal photography you want to work on.

Yes. Coastal workshops are often planned around safe and useful tide windows. The exact meeting time may vary depending on the location, tide, light and what we want to photograph.

Yes. A coastal workshop can be fully coast-focused, or it can be combined with woodland, wider landscapes, close-up natural details, wildlife hides or other natural subjects as part of a bespoke day.

Poor weather does not automatically mean poor photography. Coastal photography can work well in soft light, stormy conditions, cloud, wind and changing weather. If the weather becomes unsafe or completely unsuitable, we can discuss adjusting the location, plan or date.

A camera, charged batteries, memory cards and suitable outdoor clothing are the essentials. A tripod is useful for many coastal scenes, and filters can be helpful for long exposures, but I can advise you before the day based on your equipment and workshop plan.

Travel during the workshop day is included from our agreed meeting point. Depending on the location and format, we may meet at the coastal location or arrange a suitable meeting point and travel together from there.
