Coastal photography is one of the most rewarding and changeable forms of landscape photography. These workshops are designed to help you slow down, read the tide, simplify the scene and make stronger images from movement, light, texture and atmosphere.
Whether you are new to photography or looking to refine your seascape compositions, each workshop is shaped around your experience, preferred dates, tide times and the kind of coastal images you want to make.
Learn to Read the Coast More Clearly
Coastal photography can feel unpredictable at first. The tide changes, waves move constantly, light comes and goes, and it can be difficult to know when to wait, when to shoot and where to place your attention.
The aim of these workshops is to make coastal photography feel calmer and more deliberate. We work slowly, looking for shape, timing, water movement, rock texture, leading lines, balance, exposure and the small decisions that help bring order to the scene.
Your workshop can focus entirely on coastal and seascape photography, or it can be combined with woodland, wider landscapes, close-up natural details or other subjects as part of a bespoke day.
Why Coastal & Seascape Photography?
Coastal photography is less about simply arriving at a viewpoint and more about learning how to respond to movement, timing and changing light.
Instead of relying only on dramatic sunsets, we look for stronger visual structure: rock formations, wave patterns, leading lines, reflections, sea spray, tide movement, soft light, stormy skies, long exposures and the rhythm of water moving through the frame.
These workshops are ideal if you want to become more confident, patient and intentional when working around the coast.

Level 1 | Beginner
For anyone who wants to understand their camera, move away from Auto and build confidence in coastal settings.
We will keep the day calm and practical, covering exposure, focus, shutter speed, lenses and simple composition while learning how to work safely and confidently around the coast.

Level 2 | Intermediate
For photographers who know the basics but want stronger, more consistent coastal images.
We can work on composition, lens choice, filters, depth of field, shutter speed, tide timing, water movement and how to make better decisions when coastal scenes are changing quickly.

Level 3 | Advanced
For photographers who want deeper refinement, stronger creative choices and more personal seascape images.
This level focuses on timing, atmosphere, visual rhythm, restraint, field craft, mood, subtle compositions and developing a more intentional way of working around the coast.
Bespoke & Mixed Coastal Days
Not every workshop needs to fit neatly into one level. Many coastal days are planned as bespoke sessions, shaped around your interests, confidence, preferred location, tide times and the kind of images you want to make.
Your day can focus entirely on coastal and seascape photography, or combine the coast with woodland, wider landscapes, close-up natural details, wildlife hides or other subjects depending on the season, location and what you want to work on.
Coastal and seascape workshops are arranged by enquiry throughout the year, with the location and format shaped around your experience level, preferred dates, tide times, pace and the kind of coastal photography you want to work on.

Where Coastal Workshops Take Place
Most bespoke coastal workshops are planned around Angus, Fife and Aberdeenshire, with locations chosen to suit your experience level, tide times, available light and the kind of coastal images you want to make.
Depending on the day, we can work with cliffs, beaches, sea stacks, rock textures, tide movement, long exposures, wave patterns, coastal abstracts, leading lines and changing light.
Further afield coastal days can also be arranged by enquiry, including longer trips and seasonal Signature workshops.

Full-day coastal workshops start from £345 for one person.
One-to-one: £345
Two people: £276 per person
Three people: £231 per person
Four people: £197 per person
Multi-day bookings are available by enquiry, with 10% off for two days and 15% off for three days.
Travel during the workshop day is included from our agreed meeting point.
Signature & Curated Coastal Workshops
Alongside standard bespoke coastal days, I also offer more curated Signature-style coastal workshops built around some of my favourite stretches of coastline.
These are carefully planned coastal routes rather than fixed-date seasonal workshops, arranged by enquiry and shaped around tide times, light, pace and the kind of seascape images you want to make.
Options can include an East Coast Castles, Cliffs & Seascapes day, with locations such as Dunnottar Castle, Arbroath Cliffs, Lunan Bay, Auchmithie, Scurdie Ness Lighthouse, sea stacks and golden beaches.
A Moray Coast seascape day can also be shaped around places such as Bow Fiddle Rock, Hopeman and other characterful locations along the Moray coastline..

Yes. A coastal workshop can be fully coast-focused, or it can be combined with woodland, wider landscapes, close-up natural details, wildlife hides or other natural subjects as part of a bespoke day.

Poor weather does not automatically mean poor photography. Coastal photography can work well in soft light, stormy conditions, cloud, wind and changing weather. If the weather becomes unsafe or completely unsuitable, we can discuss adjusting the location, plan or date.

A camera, charged batteries, memory cards and suitable outdoor clothing are the essentials. A tripod is useful for many coastal scenes, and filters can be helpful for long exposures, but I can advise you before the day based on your equipment and workshop plan.

Travel during the workshop day is included from our agreed meeting point. Depending on the location and format, we may meet at the coastal location or arrange a suitable meeting point and travel together from there.
