Level 1 Beginner Photography Workshop in Scotland
Get off Auto. Understand your camera. Build confidence.
A calm, practical beginner photography workshop for anyone who wants their camera to finally make sense.
If settings feel confusing, or you’re tired of guessing, we’ll slow everything down and build a simple process you can repeat in woodland, coastal, landscape or everyday outdoor photography.
You’ll learn at a relaxed pace, with one-to-one or small-group guidance shaped around your current confidence, interests and the kind of images you want to make.
Who This Workshop Is For
This workshop is for beginners who want to feel more confident with their camera and stop relying on Auto mode.
You do not need advanced knowledge, expensive kit or previous workshop experience. We’ll start from where you are and build things up slowly, with practical explanations and time to practise in real landscape settings.
-
Camera settings feel confusing
We’ll work through aperture, shutter speed, ISO, focus and exposure in a clear, practical way.
The aim is to help you understand what each setting does, when to use it and how to make simple decisions without guessing.
-
Composition feels difficult
We’ll look at simple ways to organise a scene, choose what to include and avoid clutter.
You’ll learn how to slow down, notice the strongest parts of the landscape and build a photograph with more purpose.
-
You want a calm way to learn
The day is relaxed, supportive and shaped around your confidence, pace and interests.
There is no pressure to know everything already — we’ll keep things practical, repeatable and easy to apply after the workshop.
Choose What You’d Like to Photograph

Work with lochs, glens, hills, waterfalls, reflections, wider views or quieter intimate landscape details, depending on what you want to learn.

“Really enjoyed my day. I’m a beginner in photography and have been taught so much throughout the day by Duncan. Was using manual mode all day, which I thought I would never be able to do. Just great thank you, highly recommend.”
