Level 2 Intermediate Photography Workshop

Break through the plateau, refine your settings, and start making deliberate images with confidence.

If you can use your camera, but your results feel inconsistent, Level 2 is the step that locks things in. This is a calm, pressure free day focused on turning knowledge into repeatable field skills, so you stop guessing and start shooting with intent.

Workshops are available one-to-one or in small groups, with a calm pace and plenty time to practise.

You’ll be learning with an award-winning Scottish landscape and nature photographer. View recognition and features.

What this workshop is

You know the basics. Now you want control and consistency.

Level 2 is ideal if you feel stuck between beginner and advanced. You understand the settings, but you want your choices to feel intentional, even when conditions change.

  • You can shoot in Aperture Priority or Manual, but it still feels fiddly.

  • Your results are inconsistent, even when the location is great.

  • You want sharper images and better control of motion.

  • You want to stop relying on luck and start working with a simple process.

  • You want guidance in the field, without being put on the spot.

What you’ll learn

Practical skills that translate into better photographs straight away.

This is not theory for the sake of it. We focus on the choices that make the biggest difference in the field, and practise them until they feel natural.

  • Exposure control that is fast and reliable, even in tricky light.

  • Using shutter speed on purpose for movement, stability, and sharpness.

  • Aperture choices that support your subject, not just habit.

  • Metering and exposure compensation to protect highlights and hold detail.

  • Focus that stays consistent, including single point, tracking, and setup tips.

  • Composition beyond rules, including simplifying, layering, and visual balance.

Full day workshop

One full day, built around your goals, your subject preference, your location preference, the light, and the conditions.

Full day (8 hours)

More time to practise properly.

Level 2 is full day only (8 hours). This gives us the time to move between locations, let the light develop, and practise properly without rushing.

We will keep the pace calm. You will have time to shoot, review, adjust, and shoot again, so the improvements actually stick.

  • Built for proper progress, not rushed stops.

  • One to one or small groups (up to three). Calm, personal, and plenty time for each person.

  • Tailored to your subject preference. Coastal, woodland, or landscape.

  • Tailored to your location preference. Pick from Angus, Tayside, Perthshire, or Aberdeenshire, or suggest somewhere you love.

  • Planned around the light, conditions, and tides where needed, so we are in the right place at the right time.

  • We build a simple field rhythm. Shoot. Review. Adjust. Repeat. So the improvements actually stick.

If you’re unsure which to pick, enquire and I’ll guide you.

What you’ll photograph

Your day is tailored around what you want to photograph, not a fixed route.

Coastal and seascapes: including long exposures, textures, and timing.

  • Woodland: including layers, abstracts, and finding order in chaos.

  • Natural landscape: including glens, lochs, and classic Scottish viewpoints.

If there’s a place you already love, or somewhere you’ve always wanted to shoot, we can tailor the workshop around that location too. Just tell me when you enquire and I’ll advise what will work best for the time of year and conditions.
