Glen Affric Autumn Photography Workshop

Scotland’s most beautiful glen at its most spectacular time of year.

Sat 10th - Sat 24th of October 2026.

Join me for a Signature Workshop in Glen Affric during one of the most beautiful times of year to photograph this remarkable landscape. Timed for the brief autumn window when the glen’s woodland colour, mist, and atmosphere come alive, this workshop is designed for photographers who want a more personal and immersive experience.

A destination workshop built around autumn at its best

This workshop is part of my Signature Workshop collection, a small series of location-led experiences built around places that deserve a more thoughtful approach. Rather than trying to see everything at speed, the focus here is on working more deliberately within a landscape that rewards patience, observation, and time.

In autumn, Glen Affric offers exactly that. The combination of ancient woodland, quiet lochs, layered hills, and the possibility of soft mist creates ideal conditions for photographers who are drawn to mood, depth, and atmosphere in their images.

A deeper experience of Glen Affric

More than a photography workshop

This workshop is about more than photography alone. It is about stepping into one of the most remarkable natural environments in Scotland and experiencing it fully, through ancient woodland, rich seasonal colour, quiet atmosphere, and the timeless beauty of Glen Affric.

To be immersed in a landscape like this is rewarding in its own right. There is a kind of restoration that comes from spending time in nature at this depth, away from noise and distraction, and that feeling becomes part of the experience just as much as the photographs themselves.

Creatively, Glen Affric offers exceptional variety. Alongside its iconic lochs, mountains, and native woodland, there is endless inspiration in the finer details, in colour, texture, layers, patterns, and more abstract responses to the landscape. It is a place that invites both observation and interpretation.

This is a workshop I am incredibly proud of and genuinely excited to offer. It reflects the kind of experience I care most about creating: personal, thoughtful, immersive, and rooted in a landscape that leaves a lasting impression.

What to expect

Small group sizes
Available as a private one-to-one session or in small groups of up to 4, keeping the workshop calm, personal, and supportive.

One-day or multi-day flexibility
Book a single day if you want a focused experience, or choose a multi-day option for a deeper and more varied exploration of the glen.

Transport included
Transport is included from an agreed meeting point, so you can relax and enjoy the journey without the added pressure of driving.

A workshop shaped by conditions
We work with the landscape as it is on the day. Scotland’s weather is part of what makes these locations so special, and some of the most memorable images are made in softer, moodier, more atmospheric conditions.

Guidance tailored to you
Whether you want to improve composition, understand camera settings, work on woodland photography, or develop a better eye for light and atmosphere, the day will be shaped around what is most useful to you.

Who this workshop is for

This workshop is ideal for photographers who want more than a quick visit to a famous location. It is particularly well suited to those who value atmosphere, slower photography, and a more personal learning experience.

It may suit you especially well if you enjoy woodland and landscape photography, prefer a calm and supportive environment, want to photograph Glen Affric at the right time of year, or are looking for help with composition, settings, or creative approach.

You do not need to be advanced. The day can be tailored to suit a range of experience levels, as long as you have a genuine interest in photographing the landscape thoughtfully.

The location

Widely regarded as one of the most beautiful glens in the UK, Glen Affric is home to one of the largest surviving remnants of the ancient Caledonian Forest. It is a place of historic Scots pines, elder birch, quiet lochs, and mountain backdrops, with a depth and richness that makes it especially rewarding in autumn.

During this short seasonal window, the glen can be transformed by golden birch, soft muted light, and lingering mist that adds depth and atmosphere to the woodland. It is a landscape that offers both grander scenes and quieter, more intimate details, making it ideal for photographers who enjoy working more slowly and looking beyond the obvious.

  • This is not a checklist. It’s about understanding how to see and build stronger images in woodland environments.

    • How to approach a woodland photography scene with confidence

    • How to simplify busy compositions and remove distractions

    • How to create stronger woodland compositions using depth and layering

    • How to photograph bluebell woodland scenes without repetition

    • How to use light, flow, and balance in natural environments

    • How to build intimate landscape compositions

    • How to shoot macro and close-up woodland details

    • How to move between wide scenes, intimate scenes, and detail work

    • How to develop your own photographic eye in woodland environments

    • Camera settings and technical guidance where needed

  • This is a calm, personal photography workshop in Scotland, available as one to one tuition or for small groups of up to four.

    There is no rush.

We move through the woodland slowly, stopping to observe, discuss, and refine compositions.

You will be guided through how to:

    • See a scene clearly

    • Build a composition step by step

    • Understand what makes an image work

If you book one to one, the day can be tailored entirely around your pace, interests, and level.

If you book as a small group, you still get a personal and supportive experience, while benefiting from shared ideas, discussion, and atmosphere.

The focus is on learning, improving, and enjoying the process.

    • Beginners who want to feel confident using their camera

    • Photographers struggling with woodland composition

    • Intermediate photographers wanting stronger, more intentional images

    • Landscape photographers exploring intimate woodland photography

    • Macro photographers wanting to expand into wider storytelling

    • Friends, couples, or small groups wanting a shared workshop experience

    • Anyone looking for a calm, nature-led photography experience in Scotland

Why choose this workshop

There are plenty of places in Scotland that look good in a photograph. Glen Affric is one of the few that feels genuinely special when you spend proper time in it.

This workshop is not about rushing between viewpoints or chasing a checklist of shots. It is about experiencing the glen in a more rewarding way, learning how to respond to the conditions, and creating photographs that feel more intentional and more personal.

For those who are drawn to autumn colour, ancient woodland, and a slower pace in the landscape, this is one of the most rewarding workshops I offer.
